Miami, Fla. – January 28, 2019 – Magic City Casino donated $8,000 to Potentia Academy, on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, in front of an enthusiastic student body and appreciative teachers and student administrators. Potentia Academy is a Greenacres private school that works exclusively with students with unique learning abilities. The funds for the donation were generated as partially used vouchers, that were left behind on the Magic City Casino floor by patrons over the course of 2018. The donation is part of a multi-year effort that has bestowed “loose” change to worthy community partners throughout South Florida, and has generated upwards of $60,000 over the past seven years.
“Magic City Casino is thrilled to make this donation to Potentia Academy and to continue Magic City Casino’s long-term effort to recognize local organizations that are serving a positive role in our community. We applaud Potentia Academy for creating such a positive learning environment that enables their students to flourish,” said Scott Savin, Chief Operating Officer of Magic City Casino.
Potentia Academy, founded in 2009, is a non-profit, private middle and high school that offers a distinctive approach to teaching that is tailored to students’ individual needs and pace of learning. The school’s mission is to empower students to reach their full learning potential and to acquire the living, social, and job skills necessary to transition to independent living.
“Potentia Academy is extremely grateful for Magic City Casino’s generous donation and are delighted that they have turned loose change into meaningful help for community partners. We strive to empower our students to thrive in a nurturing atmosphere. This donation will certainly help our organization support that objective,” said Janice Meeks, principal of Potentia Academy.
