‘WORLD’S FASTEST GAME’ RETURNS TO MAGIC CITY CASINO ON JULY 3 FOR SECOND SEASON

Miami, Fla. – June 24, 2019 – Magic City Casino will launch the highly anticipated 2019 jai-alai season on Wednesday, July 3. The Magic City Jai-Alai roster will feature a dynamic lineup of 20 professional jai-alai players, many University of Miami alum, to spotlight their talents at the venue’s fronton. Magic City Jai-Alai performances will take place Wednesdays through Saturdays* at 3 p.m. & 7 p.m. (*Saturday’s 7 p.m. performance is 21 and over only), and Sundays at 1 p.m. through November 30. Players will compete in both singles and doubles format throughout the season for over $400,000 in performance-based prize money.

“We are thrilled to unveil the next chapter in the sport of jai-alai. The 2019 season promises to be action-packed, as the ‘world’s fastest sport’ engages a new generation of fans in an updated format,” said Scott Savin, Chief Operating Officer of Magic City Casino.

The Magic City Jai-Alai roster showcases an athletically diverse lineup of local players who have turned their athletic attention towards a sport previously dominated by players from the Basque region of Spain. These former college football, baseball, lacrosse and track athletes are training under the watchful eye of renowned jai-alai champion Juan Ramon Arrasate (Arra). The jai-alai fronton, partially constructed in Spain, measures 120′ in length and 40′ in width. The court’s glass walls on the front and back sides enable fans to see the pelota racing towards them at speeds of over 150mph.

In addition to the season’s weekly game schedule, Magic City Jai-Alai will be presenting “The Jai” on Friday and Saturday evenings. “The Jai” will feature a relaxed atmosphere inside the fronton including an indoor game area, a live DJ and drink specials. Family Day will be presented every Sunday starting at 1 p.m. as part of the jai-alai performances with free activities for kids including an inflatable double slide, face painting and balloon animals.

Magic City Hustle, the latest feature documentary from Rakontur, the Miami media studio run by Emmy and Peabody Award-winning storytellers Billy Corben and Alfred Spellman, will be viewable through video on-demand during the month of July at www.magiccityhustle.com. Magic City Hustle debuted at the 2019 Miami Film Festival and captured the Documentary Achievement award. The film follows former University of Miami Hurricane athletes who get an unexpected chance to turn pro as jai-alai players as part of Magic City Casino’s inaugural jai-alai team.
