FEB. 6 MARKS LAUNCH OF MAGIC CITY JAI-ALAI’S FOURTH SEASON

Miami, Fla. – February 02, 2021 – Magic City Jai-Alai will launch the fourth season of the “world’s fastest sport,” beginning Feb. 6. A dynamic roster of 20 jai-alai players, including three new athletes, will compete for $400,000 in prize money over an approximate 40-week period. The addition of three new athletes to the roster, Julen Goitiandia, Ben Langhans and Daniel Spinner, affirms a new surge of excitement and fresh pool of talent entering the sport. Games will be shown live on YouTube’s Jai-Alai Channel.

“Magic City Jai-Alai is proud to launch an action-packed fourth season and to welcome new players, each with an interesting personal story of how he came to this sport,” said Scott Savin, Chief Operating Officer of Magic City Casino. “Our program and lineup have made tremendous progress from our start in 2018. We started this program with a big vision three years ago, and these new players are part of this next version and the next chapter.”

Jai-alai has experienced a resurgence in popularity. Professional jai-alai, which is played throughout the world, was originally introduced in the United States in 1926, and has been played exclusively in Florida since 2003. In 2018, Magic City Jai-Alai kicked off a program recruiting former college athletes with no previous jai-alai experience to fill their roster and become professional players that year, including several former University of Miami athletes. In 2020, Magic City Jai-Alai introduced a virtual fronton experience presented on YouTube’s The Jai-Alai Channel, which offers reliable live game coverage and short-form videos with player profiles and tutorials from Magic City and other jai-alai frontons. Most recently, the sport of jai-alai became the latest entrant into the world of fantasy sports.

Jai-alai, a sport with roots from the Basque region in Spain, is played round-robin style, in singles and doubles formats. The games at Magic City Jai-Alai are played on a shorter court than traditional jai-alai, with glass back walls which makes the game faster paced and more thrilling.
